Course Description

How can mindfulness enhance the creative process? This workshop will teach you how to explore your inner and outer experience and translate your discoveries into writing and/or visual art. You’ll be guided in short bursts of mindfulness practice, lasting about 10 minutes each, to help you tap into your experience in different ways and draw inspiration from the present moment. Offered in collaboration with Duke University.

“No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it” – Albert Einstein.

“Welcome to the country of the present moment.” — Thich That Hanh

“If something doesn’t creep into a drawing that you’re not prepared for, you might as well not have drawn it.” — Edward Gorey

“We do not learn anything recreating pretty, safe and known successes: To learn, we make messes.  Flat out disastrous mistake-making and ugly drawings are also a goal.” —Tara Geer

“We all have 10,000 bad drawings in us. The sooner we get them out the better.” —Walt Stanchfield (better known as Walt Disney)
